First ZBrush Class

Just wanted to post the results of my first ZBrush Class.  I've only played with it once before but I'm glad I was able to remember how to navigate through the software.  I'm posting this here so I can monitor my progress throughout my time at FIEA.

2D Class Week 05 Silhouettes

This week's assignment was to create something using silhouettes.  This turned out to be a lot more difficult than I thought it would be and it took me about 4 hours to complete.

3D Class Week 05 Modeling A Prop

This week's assignment was to begin modeling a cannon by creating a proxy cannon.  I started by getting a rough scale using a character template provided and the UE4 Third Person dude.  Then I made my proxy model and imported it into UE4.  I gave it a few quick materials (purposely left one without material) just to show it off.  Spent about 3 hours making the cannon, importing into UE4, and taking pictures of everything.  Also watched most of the extra videos which probably took another 2.5 hours.

2D Class Week 04 Composition and Layout

This week's assignment was to create a digital painting using one of the given composition formats.  I chose to make a radial composition.  At the very bottom is a reference image I used, hoping to copy some of the elements as well as the shading style.  Overall this took me about 9 hours to complete.

3D Week 04 Lego Project Part 02

This week's assignment was to create another Lego piece and build a new scene in UE4.

I chose to make simpler objects this time around so that I could focus on other homework this week as last week almost all of my time was dedicated to making the tire.  I chose to make two pieces, a flat cap and a tapered cone thing.  Overall, with setting up size references and making LODs, it took me about 45 minutes to create both pieces.  I probably spent another 15 minutes setting up the pieces for picture taking. Starting on the left is my wire frame, normal view, and smooth preview.  I learned a lot from making the tire and I was really happy with how fast and easy these pieces were to make.

I was on the aircraft team and we ended up splitting up into two smaller teams to make our air vehicle.  The girls formed one team and so it ended up with Tiffany Brodie, Kendall Robertson and I on a team while Matthew Trupiano, Yunhao Huo, and Hezekiah Olopade formed the other team.  The girls team was heavily inspired by Tron and chose to make a passenger vehicle.  I worked on the main body while Tiffany created the wings and Kendall took care of materials.  Overall we probably spent about 3.5 hours making our craft.

Huge shout out to the environment team for putting everything together and to Leah for doing the amazing lighting.

2D Class Week 03 (One,Two, Three Perspective)

This week's assignment was to find a reference image of three point perspective and draw it.  I put my process here starting with drawing some lines over the image to see where the points converge.  Then on a new document I roughed in some basic shapes.  Then I cleaned it up a bit more and roughed out some shading.  The last is my final work where I drew solid lines and shading.  I spent almost exactly 1.5 hours on this which is what we're supposedly supposed to spend on these homeworks although if I had more time I would definitely add more details and blend the shading.  At this point though I have other homework due and I'm having to prioritize a bit.

Lego Group 2

I'm on a group with Matthew T., Hez, Tiffany, Yun Hao, and Kendall.

Week 03 Lego Project Part 01

This week's assignment was to choose a Lego part to model in Maya and then work in teams to make something with everyone's unique pieces in UE4.  I chose to make a tire.  This is my first time doing any serious modeling in Maya and I thought I could learn a lot by making a tire and I wasn't wrong.  So I made the actual rubber tire part separate from the inner rim.  I think the hardest part was creating the bolt holes and to be honest my edge flow isn't great on that part but there aren't any NGons at all so I'm pretty darn happy.  I learned a lot and a huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped me work on this and tried to come up with different solutions to the various problems I encountered along the way.  Overall, model probably took about 8 hours to make, what with watching multiple videos and getting help and opinions from peers.

Alright, on to the fun part of building something from all the different Lego's everyone made.  I was on a team with Ryan and Michael and we decided to make a car from the start what with me creating the tire.  Michael worked on a connector piece for the tire and Ryan created the Lego people.  Once in UE4 I created the race car you see below as well as all the materials while Michael created the race track area and Ryan created the stadium seats and crowd.  Overall, I'd say it took about three hours for me to create the car and all the materials we needed and then I merged the files and arranged everything in our scene.  This team was awesome and I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with such talented people!
